The latest single from bass player / composer Benedikt Wieland, titled words is a collaboration fellow Swiss multi-instrumentalist and chanteuse extraordinaire Andrina Bollinger. The result is an impressive piece of bold after-dark pop that paradoxically sounds big yet highly intimate all at once as it builds to a dramatic, almost theatrical climax.

About the concept of the release series

As with his previous releases, this one also started as a series of improvisation sessions that took place in his Berlin-based studio. The pieces should be seen as a part of an ongoing research into formal solutions to subvert traditional sound aesthetics associated with the e-bass. When asked to expand on the topic, Wieland says that what he's after is a sound where “the bass guitar becomes an orchestra, and is no longer bound to its traditional role as the foundation for harmony and rhythm.”
Last October, the artist finally consolidated a string of single releases into an EP titled Creatures. It features a variety of artists whom he cherry-picked from his extended musical family: composer/vocalist REA, spoken word artist AINT ABOUT ME, Violinist Tobias Preisig, Saxophonist Simon Spiess, and Morris Kliphius on french horn. The project was overseen by his production advisors: composer Alexandre J. Maurer and electronica artist Jan Bang.
